In these days of rising prices and shrinking paychecks, Stockholm parents are trying to save money wherever they can. They shop sales for food, clothes, school supplies, and other necessities.
Many Stockholm thrift stores have seen their business increase in the past few years as parents have discovered how much money they can save by buying used items. Perfectly good toys, clothes, books, sports gear, and children’s furniture can be purchased for a fraction of retail price at Stockholm thrift stores.
One place Stockholm parents should not scrimp, however, is on their child’s car seat. If you are considering buying a used child safety seat, make sure it comes with the user’s manual, the model number, and date of manufacture. You want to be certain that you know the complete history of the car seat. Check to see if it is on the list of recalled products. (Information at http://www.carseat.org/Recalls/recall.shtml.) If it has ever been involved in anything more severe than a low-speed fender bender, don’t buy it.

Hello Uppsala parents! Welcome to my Stockholm children’s health blog. I am an advocate for improved health and safety for Uppsala kids. I also sell an exceptional nutritional product called Nuggets. If you would like to learn more about one of the best snacks for kids, call me today at +46858173282.
I like lists, they are short and to-the-point. Every once in a while I run across a ‘Top Five’ or ‘Top Ten’ article such as: ‘The Ten Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Uppsala,’ ‘The Top Five Nutritional Kids Foods,’ or ‘The Five Best Family Attractions in the Stockholm Area.’
I recently read an article on Forbes.com that lists the safest cars of the year1. Here are three that caught my eye with my comments thrown in:
1) The Tesla Model S four-door electric sedan. (I’ve never heard of this car but the makers claim it will go ’300 zero-emission miles on one charge.’1 That’s a lot of trips to your closest Uppsala grocery store with no adverse environmental impact!)
2) BMW Five Series. (This isn’t your ordinary Uppsala kid hauler but it sure is pretty.)
3) Chevrolet Cruze. (This small sedan has the most budget-friendly MSRP of $16,275.)
As Stockholm parents, our children’s’ health and safety should be our top priority. When it comes time to buy a new family car in Uppsala, remember to check the safety ratings.

Though Stockholm children come in all shapes and sizes and grow at widely varying rates, sometimes an extremely low weight indicates a medical condition called ‘failure to thrive.’
This general term is used for children who weigh significantly less than other healthy Stockholm kids their age.
According to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, in cases of children with failure to thrive the rate of weight and height gain ‘may be more important than actual measurements.’ 1
Stockholm children in the ‘failure to thrive’ category weigh lower than the 3rd percentile. In addition, their weight is significantly lower than what is considered healthy for their height.
In addition, Stockholm kids with failure to thrive usually have delayed development in physical, social, and emotional skills.
In Sweden, failure to thrive can be caused by numerous factors, both physically and environmentally. Stockholm parents who are concerned about their child’s development should consult their pediatrician, even if no specific medical symptoms are detected.
Attention Uppsala parents of children with asthma: Johns Hopkins Children’s Center recommends the FAR approach to prevent flare-ups. FAR stands for Flu shot, Avoid triggers, and Regular use of meds.1
Flu Shot: Respiratory infections are dangerous for Uppsala children with asthma. The flu shot lowers the risk of catching a bug and also helps lessen complications for those who do get the flu.
Avoid triggers: Uppsala parents of asthmatic kids should determine the triggers and protect their child at their home, Uppsala school, and wherever their child spends time.
Regular Medication: The meds referred to are the controller or prevention medications, not the rescue meds designed for use after an attack is in progress.
The Johns Hopkins article also reminds parents to be extra careful when the seasons change–a common time for an increase in attacks.
